Abe Maier and his wife, Carol (sometimes called Babe), can be found at a square dance most weekends, with Abe as the caller. Those dances are located throughout Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin. He has been the featured caller for a number of square dance weekends and is regularly on the Minnesota State Convention program.
Abe has been calling since 1976. He and Babe sponsor square dance camp-outs every summer, they have been doing this since 1981. Yearly, Abe teaches beginner classes for three clubs, as well as plus.
Abe and Carol have four grown children and twelve grandchildren. Their leisure time is spent at their lakeside, rural Clearwater home or at their cabin, which is northwest of Brainerd, fishing. The biggest reward of it all is their many valued square dance friends.
